Lumitec Zambezi Mini Surface Mount Underwater Boat Light – White, Blue or Color-Changing RGBW

Underwater lights are the upgrade people notice from across the lake. The problem on a pontoon has always been how to fit them: most marine underwater lights are bronze thru-hulls designed to be bored into a fiberglass hull. Drill a bronze fitting into an aluminum tube and you have built a galvanic corrosion cell — dissimilar metals in water, with the aluminum losing.

The Zambezi Mini sidesteps the whole problem. It is a surface-mount light in an anodized aluminum housing — it bolts to the outside of the transom with three screws, no hole through anything, and the housing is self-isolating from the metal it mounts against. Aluminum against aluminum is exactly what you want on a toon.

It is also small: 3" across and 1.2" deep, so it tucks under the transom without looking bolted-on. Runs on 10–30V DC with a simple two-wire hookup, and it is backed by a 3-year warranty.

Choosing a color

White (890 lumens) is the brightest of the three and the one that lights up the water for swimming and night boarding.

Blue is the classic look — the glow that makes the water around the boat light up at anchor. It is the most-requested color on pontoons for a reason.

Spectrum RGBW (670 lumens) is full color change. It uses Lumitec's PLI system, which sends color and brightness instructions down the same two power wires — so there is no extra control wiring to run. You can also cycle colors with nothing but a switch using Lumitec's Timed Toggle Protocol: flick the power off and on to step through colors. Add a PLI controller later if you want app and MFD control.

Install note: mounts below the waterline on the transom — most pontoons take a pair, one either side of the motor. Run it on a switched, fused circuit. Because there is no hole through the tube, this is a bolt-on job rather than a haul-out job.
