How to Choose the Right Pontoon Boat Cover for Florida Weather

Choosing the right pontoon boat cover is one of the most important decisions a Florida boat owner can make. With year-round sun, humidity, and the occasional storm, your cover needs to do more than just keep rain off your deck.

What to look for in a Florida pontoon cover:

UV Protection — Florida's sun is intense year-round. Look for covers made with solution-dyed polyester or marine-grade canvas that includes UV inhibitors. A cheap cover will fade and crack within one season in the Florida heat.

Water Resistance vs Waterproof — Most pontoon covers are water resistant, not fully waterproof. For Florida's heavy afternoon storms, look for covers with sealed seams and a tight elastic hem that wraps under the pontoon rails.

Trailerable vs Mooring — If you trailer your boat like most Tampa Bay boaters do, you need a trailerable cover with support straps and a snug fit that won't flap at highway speeds. Mooring covers are designed to stay on while docked and aren't built for trailering.

Size matters — Always measure your pontoon's length and beam width before ordering. A cover that's too small won't protect your boat. A cover that's too large will flap and wear out faster. Most covers are sized in 2-foot increments — when in doubt size up.
